2022 Review

After a few years of patchy work due to lockdowns, 2022 ended up being one of the busiest years to date. Here’s a quick rundown spread over five posts. Please click on to the next sections as each season has differing areas of my work. There is a lot of work to show so this is split over 5 parts to divide up the year. Given January is usually my quietest month, I decided to pay another visit to a personal project at Bristol Fungarium. They had a huge new premises and loads of new species to capture. I plan to make some framed, fine art prints of these Ultra Macro images of Fungi in 2023, in a collection/series I have named ‘Myceliscapes’. 

January also had a fun but challenging job. I had done my commercial drone licence and learnt how to fly FPV through goggles in lockdown 2020. It has really grown in popularity since then with a one shot promo film for a bowling alley in the US having gone viral. Flying near people legally involves a lot of paperwork and lengthy risk assessments with a lot of mitigation. This shot was flown on a very small drone, which looks like a toy. It’s under 250 grams and has propeller guards to minimise risk when flying near people. To get usable footage from something this lightweight it has a stripped down gopro camera with all batteries and screens removed for weight saving. All that being said it’s still a lot of pressure and very hard to get this shot. One slip of the thumb by 1mm and the shot is ruined and you have to start again and we only have a few takes as we could only stop the rest of the office employees from using the main entrance for a certain amount of time,. Thanks to Sammon Media for the job, edit, motion graphics work (and overseeing all the moving parts listed above) and Mitie for getting me in. 


I had a few different jobs related to kitchens. John Lewis of Hungerford needed some quick turnaround images of their staff and workflow for the brochure that Zeke Creative were designing. They have a huge archive of kitchen photography by specialists but had a few gaps to fill such as capturing the designers.

Artichoke

Finally, to wrap up a multi-year project, I had a nice shoot following the craft journey of the most amazing kitchen tables I have ever seen from Artichoke. The table was being wrapped up and packaged, shipped and installed in its new home in Venice. Clifton High School archive update

Feb saw the first of the automotive shoots with The Rolls-Royce Pinnacle Club for Valentine’s Day.

A few days corporate work in central London for CBW

February also had a trip out to Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi with Sammon Media again helping out on production for a shoot with Veloqx Fangio. The amazing F1 circuit was hired out exclusively for testing and media reveal. Sammon had hired a team of F1 TV cameramen specialists. So though a bit different to my day job it was amazing to see this part of the world, work with some very expensive high-end kit and see the car. A few phone snaps below

Had a nice overnight stay at new Hotel Ty Milford Haven in West Wales. This was a new Hotel so all aspects needed to be covered. With it being a Marina view it was great to be able to cover the exteriors given we didn’t have to wait for foliage. 

I got together a video crew to produce and direct a Diversity and Inclusion video for The Environment Agency. This was a bit job over a few months. The image to the left has a link to some of the stills and Video is found below
